Welcome to Bookended.

According to the dictionary, bookends are objects that help keep books upright. You are in the right place if you believe books are what keep YOU upright, your reliable support system for adventure, inspiration, and life lessons.

Bookended is a website that shares book recommendations and to-read lists on a variety of subjects. But that's not all.

It's a  gathering place where I share my love for books and my writing journey with you. A place of information about books but also of encouragement to live your own story. A place of growing pains and of blossoming into one's full self. A place of beauty, soul, self-expression and creativity.

Five Must-Knows For The Aspiring Writer

Five Must-Knows For The Aspiring Writer/ Bookended.org

If this is your first time here, this is Day 1278 (give or take a few days) of my writing journey. I first started exploring the idea of writing a novel in late 2017. Three and a half years later, I am working on the third draft of my first novel and the goal is to finish by August. (Fingers crossed.) (I’m hopeful). This is my first attempt at writing a book. Over the last 3-4 years, I’ve read many different kinds of instructions on how to write. I’ve definitely learned from these resources. By showing up to write and persisting in the writing, even when it felt like the book wasn’t going anywhere fast, I learned what didn’t work for me. In this post, it is my intention to share some of these ideas (from the perspective of one beginner writer to another) and my hope is it will be useful to anyone embarking on a writer’s journey. Here are my 5 must-knows for the aspiring writer! READ MORE

Bookended, 2021

Jan 28th, 2021 Dear Reader, My intention is to restart Bookended (Bookended, 2.0). I can blame 2020 for not providing enough time, bandwidth, or opportunity to be present here but that would be taking the easy way out because it wasn’t until recently that I became clear on what I was doing here. What is Bookended? I’d like to create a space that celebrates books and the unique relationship that develops between the words and the…

Perry Mason: The Case Of The Dashing Lawyer/Detective I spent the first decade of my life in India, most of the second in the Middle East where my Dad worked, and returned back to India for college before moving to the United States. Growing up, most of the books that I had access to were by Indian and British authors. The few exceptions were American mystery novels like the Nancy Drew series by Carolyn Keene, The…

Your Inner Awakening: The Work of Byron Katie: Four Questions That Will Transform Your Life As 2020 grinds on, it has felt like a continual stripping away of the world as we knew it (I wrote more about it here) and one of the audiobooks that has really helped break through the repetitive patterns of disempowering thoughts is Your Inner Awakening: The Work of Byron Katie: Four Questions That Will Transform Your Life. Judge A Book By Its Cover, #3 First, the disclaimer: I haven’t read the book yet. In this series, I’m judging the book by its cover. You may have heard the idiom, don’t judge a book by its cover, an admonishment to not let surface appearances sway you. Take the time to read the book, delve beneath the surface, and find what message lies within its pages. Get to know a person instead of letting your…

5 Books On Creativity: Must-Read
Welcome to the first post on sets of books that focus on a specific subject. I’ve called the series Connect The Dots because it allows me to share 5 books that can be read sequentially, going from one to the other naturally, much like drawing an actual connect-the-dots figure....
