As a lifelong reader and aspiring writer, my first instinct is to turn to words and books for everything. I want to use words to express my grief for the hate and violence that still runs rampant in our societies, both in the United States and in other parts of the world. And I want to use words to educate myself so that I may continue to learn and take informed action. This is my prayer: Let us vanquish forever the pandemics of hate, prejudice, and ignorance. We are all equal, and each one of us is deserving of love, acceptance, and opportunity.
There are many book lists on the internet (here is one from the NYTimes) on the subject of race and I started with Ijeoma Oluo’s So you want to talk about race and How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi.
