This is the first entry (Day1) for the 30-day book photography challenge and the theme for today’s post is Nostalgia. The book that I’ve chosen is the French Country Cottage Inspired Gatherings by Courtney Allison. This is a beautiful coffee table book that shares styling and ideas for gathering with family and friends, from intimate backyard tête-à-têtes to larger social occasions. I bought this book last month as a birthday gift to myself and I love looking through the gorgeously-styled and photographed images.
The theme for Day 1 of this 30-day challenge is nostalgia. What could be more nostalgic in 2020 than looking back to all those times (the pre-pandemic era) that we took gatherings for granted? When meeting someone did not involve quarantines, masks, and distancing. Home, family, and friendship have always been powerful, emotive words and have become more so this year when many of us are not able to visit with loved ones. With every page of this book, I was reminded of times spent with family and friends, especially of countless tea times spent in the company of loved ones which is my favorite time to entertain. There are many reasons to like the book: the beautiful blush color palette, exuberant use of flowers, exquisite layering, and decorating and entertaining ideas for all kinds of occasions. The best reason is this: as human beings, we are storytellers and collectors. So, first, we set set the stage and make our surroundings beautiful. Then we gather together and share our stories with the people we care about, hopefully, collecting many such moments in our lifetime.
